Moving delicate artwork

About Me

Moving delicate artwork

I have worked in remote communities for many years. I loved the connection I formed with the communities, and I amassed quite a collection of Aboriginal artwork on bark. It's actually worth quite a bit of money now, in addition to the massive sentimental value when I recall my relationships with the artists who made the work. I still have to move for work regularly, so I've become quite an expert on how to move delicate artworks on non-traditional formats. This blog is all about strategies for moving and storing delicate artwork so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

Two Errors People Often Make When Using a Furniture Removalist's Services

The presence of a furniture removalist on moving day can make the process of relocating considerably easier. However, many people make mistakes when using this type of removalist's services. Read on to find out more.

They forget to readjust their electrically powered adjustable beds

Many people own adjustable beds that are electrically operated. People who have beds like this sometimes forget to readjust them prior to handing them over to their furniture removalist, which can then cause a number of complications.

For example, if a person does not use the bed's remote to adjust the mattress so that it is lying parallel to the bed base, rather than raised into an upright position, and they tell the furniture removalist to put it into the van when it's in this configuration, it could get damaged. For instance, if the mattress is jutting away from the base, it could scrape against the sharp corner of a wardrobe or table that has been placed beside it and the fabric might tear.

Furthermore, smaller items that are in the van may fall into the gap between the bed base and the mattress during the journey. If the owner does not notice these items when the bed is put into their new home and they lower the mattress onto them, these items may get squashed.

Even if the owner of the bed realises that leaving the bed in this position was a mistake after it has been put into the furniture removalist's van, they would have to have the removalist unload it and bring it back into the house in order to plug it in and lower the mattress. This could take a lot of time. As such, it is critical for anyone with this type of bed to ensure its mattress is in a flat position before they give it to their furniture removalist.

Not labelling their furniture to indicate where it needs to be placed

The other mistake people make is not putting a label on each piece of furniture they own to indicate the room in which they want it to be placed. This can make the unloading stage of the house move needlessly complicated, as it will force the furniture removalist to seek out the homeowner in the new house every time they unload some furniture and need to know where it is supposed to be placed inside the property. This will use up a lot of their time and interrupt the homeowner whilst they are trying to unpack and put away their belongings.

By taking the time to put these labels on their furniture before it's taken away, the homeowner will enable their removalist to unload and arrange the furniture in the new house in an efficient manner, without having to continually look to them for guidance.
