Moving delicate artwork

About Me

Moving delicate artwork

I have worked in remote communities for many years. I loved the connection I formed with the communities, and I amassed quite a collection of Aboriginal artwork on bark. It's actually worth quite a bit of money now, in addition to the massive sentimental value when I recall my relationships with the artists who made the work. I still have to move for work regularly, so I've become quite an expert on how to move delicate artworks on non-traditional formats. This blog is all about strategies for moving and storing delicate artwork so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

Five Tips to Pack Quickly for Removals

Removals can be a time consuming process, but luckily, there are tips and tricks that can help you save time. Packing is one of the most time consuming aspects of moving, but with the right strategies, you can even reduce the amount of time you spend packing. Here are some ideas to consider:

1. Pack what you are not going to pack first.

As you pack for removals, you will undoubtedly pick up certain items, decide that you need them before the move and not pack them. Without the right approach, these "unpacked" items can get out of control, and you risk discovering a day or two before the move that you have not packed more than you have packed. Conversely, if you pack everything, you may end up searching through boxes for what you need.

To deal with this issue, do something counter intuitive -- pack what you don't want to pack first. Grab an overnight bag, and fill it with the clothes and toiletries you need for the next week. Then, go to your kitchen with an open box, and pack all of the kitchen essentials you need until removals day.

2. Pack from corner to corner.

Once the items you need are set aside, you know that everything else in your home (besides your bedding) needs to be packed, and you can attack the job with gusto. Start in any room of your home and pack from corner to corner. Don't worry about sorting or categorising. Simply, put everything you see in that room in a box, and work toward the opposite corner of the room.

3. Buy lots of packing supplies.

As you pack, you don't want to be scrounging around for packing supplies. To keep the process moving quickly, you need boxes, packaging material and tape conveniently at your disposal. Don't waste time looking for free boxes -- just go buy packing boxes. Although you have to spend money upfront, it helps you save time in the long run, and as a result, in most cases, the investment pays off in the long run.

4. Schedule a charity pick up.

If you want to donate anything, start a pile and add to it as you pack. However, don't waste time driving these items to the charity shop. Instead, find a charity that does home pick up and arrange for them to get the stuff the day before your move.

5. Hire removalists.

Finally, if you really want to save time on packing, just don't do it. Instead, outsource the job to the professionals. Removalists can take care of everything from packing to moving to unpacking your stuff.
