Moving delicate artwork

About Me

Moving delicate artwork

I have worked in remote communities for many years. I loved the connection I formed with the communities, and I amassed quite a collection of Aboriginal artwork on bark. It's actually worth quite a bit of money now, in addition to the massive sentimental value when I recall my relationships with the artists who made the work. I still have to move for work regularly, so I've become quite an expert on how to move delicate artworks on non-traditional formats. This blog is all about strategies for moving and storing delicate artwork so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

Preppers and Shipping Containers: Safety and Strategy Tips

Shipping containers can be a useful material for preppers to use, and if you are thinking about integrating a shipping container into your plans, you should take a look at these tips. They will guide you in the right direction:

1. You can use a shipping container to store your stockpile.

Stockpiling food can take up a lot of room, and if you don't have enough storage in your home, a shipping container can work. You can store a shipping container full of canned food and water supplies on your property, or you can put it in another secret or hidden location.

2. You can turn a shipping container into a small bug-out shelter.

Many preppers make bug-out shelters, and a shipping container can be a useful option for this. It provides a simple framework so you don't have to worry about building a bug-out shelter from scratch. Instead, you can add a few beds and shelves and a door to your shipping container, and you have an instant little shelter.

3. You should not bury shipping containers.

It can be tempting to turn a shipping container into an underground shelter, but ideally, you should not do this. Unfortunately, the sides and top of the shipping container are not designed to hold lots of weight, and if you are in it while it is underground, it could cave in or collapse on you.

However, if you build a frame to keep the weight off the shipping container, you may be able to safely turn it into an underground shelter, but remember, you need to make a plan for ventilation and for waste disposal.

Instead of burying your shipping container, find a discreet spot to hide it. Consider painting it a camo design and covering it with foliage to help hide it.

4. You should always put two doors in a shipping container used for shelter.

If you are turning your shipping container into a prepper shelter, you need two exits. Prepper shelters exist for emergency situations. The idea is that if your home is no longer safe, you can run and hide in the shipping container or bug-out shelter.

However, if a threat finds you while you are in the shipping container, you need two exits. That way, if someone is blocking one of them, you can quickly escape out the other side.
